Duties and Responsibilities:
Under supervision, provides 1:1 as well as group academic advising, recruitment/retention and academic success support functions to BSW & MSW students in the ASU School of Social Work, Tucson Component. The Academic Success Specialist meets with and advises both current and prospective students regarding academic degree requirements; interprets and explains university policies and procedures related to completion of the BSW and MSW degree; and monitors students' academic progress toward graduation to facilitate student retention and ensure compliance with School/University requirements. Evaluates undergraduate transcripts from other academic institutions for equivalencies and applicability to the BSW degree program, utilizing CAS identifies course options for satisfying degree requirements; is responsible for processing undergraduate course exceptions in DARS and determining catalog year; processes and approves registration forms and all other associated documents, informs and advises students regarding the financial aid process/deadlines; and approves consortium agreements. Maintains both BSW and MSW student files which includes updating electronic curriculum sheets; preparing and advising academic plans; verifying forms and petitions for accuracy and assisting students in their completion; and monitors graduate deficiencies. Maintains and updates Access database for prospective BSW students; conducts BSW and MSW group orientation and information sessions for current and prospective students both off-site and on site; and assists with the BSW admission process. Prepares reports as requested regarding admission and enrollment statistics and assists in the preparation of advising materials and course schedules.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE:
Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM, to include some weekends and evenings, and occasional travel to ASU downtown campus.


Skills / Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Counseling or closely related field AND two (2) years previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment/retention, related student services, teaching in an institution of higher education; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience working with: evaluating transcripts for university transfer and/or degree applicability; Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Access, Outlook); Word Perfect; public relations; conducting group information/orientation sessions; communicating policies and procedures effectively both orally and written; strong interpersonal skills; maintaining confidentiality; computerized student information systems.

Demonstrated knowledge of university and college curriculum requirements including community college offerings.

Department Statement/Gen Info:
Position is located at ASU School of Social Work Tucson office at 340 N Commerce Park Loop, Tucson, Arizona. Some travel is required to the ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus and some evening and weekend work.
