Job Description
Job Title: Director
Exemption Status: Exempt
Department/Location: Catholic Foundation/Bishop Moreno Pastoral Center
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Bishop of the Diocese of Tucson and the Catholic Foundation Board of Directors, the Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and expertise to successfully manage the Foundation in all aspects of stewardship and charitable giving. The Director works closely with lay and pastoral leaders to grow resources in support of the diocese and its individual ministries, parishes, schools and programs. The Director will work to foster a faith community that encourages its members to prayerfully consider their stewardship responsibility and decide to commit a portion of their time, talent, and treasures to serve the mission of Christ.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The Director performs in support of the mission of the Catholic Church the Diocese of Tucson and the Catholic Foundation’s mission
  • Shall abide by Catholic principles in the principal’s professional and private life, and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures
  • Educate the Catholic community on the importance of stewardship in our lives as disciples of Jesus Christ
  • Sets an example for employees by personal adherence to and compliance with personnel policies and procedures and by personal adherence to Catholic Doctrine and Catholic principles of morality
  • Be responsible for the success of the Annual Giving and Major and Planned Giving fund raising efforts in the Diocese of Tucson
  • Build and encourage legal agreements such as endowments, recognizing diocesan priorities for education, vocations, service to the poor, and facilities; encourage parishes, schools and Catholic institutions to act similarly to insure their financial viability and strength
  • Oversee legal agreements such as endowments and their investment policies to enhance returns
  • Enhance communication between the Diocese and the laity; educate and foster planned giving, wills, and major gifts
  • Hold fundraising activities as a source of funding to provide grants to Diocesan Catholic entities seeking assistance for pastoral work
  • Cooperate, support, and provide expertise to efforts of parishes, schools, and Catholic institutions to elicit support for their needs and projects
  • Identify potential donors and nurture those relationships.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with other Catholic affiliated entities to appropriately steward donors
  • Advise the Bishop on matters related to stewardship and development; assist in thanking donors for their assistance to the diocesan mission
  • Develop guidelines for the disbursement of funds and responsibly distribute available funds
  • Produce reports on income earnings and disbursements in a transparent manner
  • Develop an annual budget for stewardship and development; maintain records of financial contributions; acknowledge and record gifts of donors; maintain the Office of Stewardship and Development in an audit-ready condition ensuring the integrity and security of any fund-raising efforts
  • Prepares reports on fund raising programs for the executive board and the Bishop of the Diocese of Tucson
  • Manage and evaluate the performance of employees as required; implement personal development plans for supervised employees
  • Maintain confidentiality on all diocesan matters including sensitive personnel and diocesan business information
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the executive board or the Bishop of Tucson.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift in a normal office environment
Required Activities: Walking; sitting; standing; kneeling; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; and carrying
Basic Qualifications:
  • A working knowledge of, and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church; must also be a practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player
  • Be able to travel, and be available for evening and weekend work as necessary; have reliable transportation
  • Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in the use of computer technology including word processing and the use of excel and related technology; ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a ministerial environment
  • The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check
  • Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of professional fundraising experience
  • A minimum of 2-3 years successful prior management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with pastors, board members and community leaders
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
  • Bi-lingual (English, Spanish)
  • CFRE credential
