Southwestern Eye Center is currently seeking a PRN Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) for our Surgery Center in Tucson, AZ. This position will provide leadership to the support staff with accountability for daily operations in collaboration with physicians to assure optimal patient care and outcomes. Plans for, coordinates and manages resources in order to provide the highest quality patient care in a safe, cost effective, customer focused environment thereby creating the best place for patients to heal, physicians to practice and associates to work.

Southwestern Eye Center is a multi-specialty Ophthalmology/Optometry practice with 28 locations and 39 doctors who provide full service medical and surgical care including routine eye care, eye glass prescriptions, glaucoma, cataract, and retina surgery, cornea/ external disease, and facial reconstruction. In addition, we are one of the largest providers for vision correction options such as, LASIK and the ICL Implantable Contact Lens.


SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the direct supervision of the staff surgeon (with latitude for independent decision making), is responsible for providing anesthesia care in the operating suite and pre-operative area.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
? Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and an accredited school of anesthesia.

Licensure:
? Must hold a current Registered Nurse license in the state of Arizona.

Certification:
? Must have current certification by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
? Must have current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Experience:
? Should have thorough knowledge of the techniques of administering ophthalmic anesthesia.
? A minimum of one year experience and/or demonstrated skills in peri-orbital anesthesia.
? Should have knowledge of intravenous sedation administration.

Patient Care Skills:
? Should possess above average skills in communication, decision-making, diplomacy, confidentiality, initiative and ethics.

Other Abilities:
? Must have no physical or psychological impairment that would limit their ability to administer safe anesthesia.
? Attendance of the Ophthalmic Anesthesia Society annual meeting is encouraged.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Function as a member of the operating room team.
2. Provide information and emotional support to patients and their families.
3. Formulate an appropriate and safe anesthetic care plan for each patient utilizing the history,
physical, laboratory data, discussion with patient and any source of information that will aid in
its development
4. Provide anesthesia care utilizing one or more of the following techniques: peribulbar, retrobulbar,
topical, local infiltration, intravenous sedation and/or analgesia.
5. If appropriate, management of or assisting the physician and staff in the management of any
clinical emergency in the surgery suite or eye clinic.
6. Participate in planning for peri-operative patient care with physicians and nursing staff.
7. Maintain accurate and complete records of each patient’s anesthesia.
8. Alert the person responsible for restocking anesthesia supplies when items are needed.
