The department of Planning, Design & Construction (PDC) is hiring a Construction Project Manager to skillfully manage a wide variety of construction projects involving diverse building types using collaborative delivery methods including CM at Risk, Design/Build and Job Order Contracting.

Duties & Responsibilities

Effective Project Leadership:

  • Demonstrates successful project leadership by defining, developing and meeting project requirements, goals, budget and schedule.
  • Oversees, directs and coordinates budgets, schedules and scope/quality.
  • Manages project efforts in accordance with Arizona Board of Regents, UA and department policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Takes ownership and is the champion of assigned projects. Effectively leads the project team by exemplifying high standards. Facilitates and seeks fair, consensual resolution to project challenges, issues and conflicts.

Facilitate Project Coordination and Communication:

  • Serves as project representative and provides appropriate opportunities to facilitate input from project delivery team and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinates and communicates project related issues and responses.
  • Reports current status and coordinates future milestones of project to all relevant stakeholders and supervisors.

Provide Project Review and Management:

  • Reviews project design documentation and manages construction phase to ensure project requirements, and that the quality and service of the design are in compliance with University design standards, and appropriate codes and standards.
  • Ensures quality and success of design and construction by management of design and/or construction teams, review of construction documents, and diligent observation of work, and monitoring of the warranty phase.
  • Effectively negotiates contracts, agreements, and related documents. Provides timely and accurate management of documents and processes.

Special Assignments and Committees:

  • Contributes positive input to efforts such as Search Committees and Process Improvement Teams.
    Assists with maintenance of the Design & Specifications Standards Manual.

  • Ability to work as a cooperative team player and communicate effectively and collaborate with diverse groups with competing interests.
  • Experience in successful team leadership and management including problem solving and issue resolution.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Structural Engineering or related field AND five years of construction experience which included one year of construction supervisory experience; OR,
• Ten years of progressively responsible construction experience which included one year of construction supervisory experience; OR,
• Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management experience as an owner’s representative.
  • Experience delivering a project while working with or for a public entity.
  • Capital project experience: Construction-phase Project Manager for multiple institutional-quality buildings with $10M – $100M budgets.
  • Assistant Project Managers with experience on multiple, large building projects will be considered.
  • Experience managing construction projects in an academic environment including the construction of new buildings and renovations of existing buildings, such as: classrooms, laboratories (wet and dry), residence halls, athletic facilities, student unions and medical facilities.
  • Experience managing projects through the construction phase, which includes a working knowledge of construction administration procedures, i.e. scheduling, quality control, submittal reviews, pay applications, change orders, etc.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in contract negotiation and administration.
  • Extensive experience with Construction Manager @ Risk, Job Order Contracting and Design/Build project delivery methods.
  • Proven strong track record of successful projects
